Rhinoplasty Q & A

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a type of plastic surgery that improves the physical appearance and proportion of your nose. It can also enhance facial harmony and quality of life.

What conditions can benefit from rhinoplasty?

Dr. Han uses rhinoplasty to address a variety of conditions and imperfections, including:

  • Noses that are abnormally large or small
  • Depressions or lumps on the bridge of your nose
  • Nostrils that are large, wide, or upturned
  • Nasal asymmetry

You might also benefit from rhinoplasty if the tip of your nose is bulbous, drooping, or hooked.

Who is a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

If you feel self-conscious about the shape, size, or appearance of your nose, rhinoplasty is worth considering. To qualify for treatment, you need to be in good physical health, not smoke, and have realistic expectations for the procedure.

At your initial consultation, Dr. Han assesses your mental and physical health, reviews your medical history, and asks about your goals for treatment. He then educates you about rhinoplasty, including the options available for surgery, the risk of potential complications, and his recommended course of treatment.

If you have any questions or concerns during your consultation, don’t hesitate to speak up.

What does rhinoplasty involve?

Dr. Han performs rhinoplasty on-site in his accredited surgical suite or at a nearby hospital. Prior to your procedure, he administers anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Once the anesthesia sets in, he gets to work. Depending on your goals for treatment, Dr. Han might:

  • Alter or reshape your nasal bridge
  • Reduce the shape or width of your nose
  • Reshape the nasal tip
  • Reduce the width or size of your nostrils

He might also adjust the angle between your nose and upper lip.

If you have an obstructed airway that affects your breathing, Dr. Han can adjust the nasal structure and improve alignment, allowing you to breathe more clearly.

What is recovery like following rhinoplasty?

Following rhinoplasty, it’s normal to experience some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort. In the days after your procedure, take your medication as prescribed, and apply cold compresses throughout the day. In addition, keep your head elevated, ensure your nasal packing remains in place, and attend each follow-up appointment.

After a few days, you can start easing back into normal activities. You can remove the splint and nasal packing a week or two following the procedure.

It takes about a year to fully experience the effects of rhinoplasty. Be patient, and follow Dr. Han’s recovery instructions carefully to ensure a positive outcome.
