What is a facelift?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic procedure that addresses sagging skin, jowls, and facial wrinkles. It corrects drooping muscles, removes excess fat, and restores firmness to your skin, creating a more youthful, rested, and vibrant appearance.

What types of problems can a facelift treat?

Dr. Han uses facelifts to address various skin problems caused by the natural aging process, including:

• Sagging in the midface
• Wrinkles around the mouth and nose
• Displaced or fallen pockets of fat
• Loose skin
• Deposits of fat beneath the chin and jaw

Who is a good candidate for a facelift?

To determine if you’re a good candidate for a facelift, Dr. Han assesses your physical and mental health, reviews your medical history, and asks about your goals for treatment. To qualify for treatment, you must be in good physical health with no underlying medical problems. It’s also important to have realistic expectations for treatment and a positive outlook.

What does a facelift involve?

Dr. Han performs facelifts on-site in his accredited surgical suite. Prior to conducting the operation, he administers a general anesthetic to ensure your comfort. Once the anesthesia sets in, Dr. Han makes a series of small incisions and removes excess skin and fat. He lifts the remaining tissue and drapes it over newly positioned contours. 

Dr. Han closes all of the incisions and moves you to a different room for observation. Most facelifts take between two and four hours.

What is recovery like following a facelift?

Following a facelift, Dr. Han wraps your face with a bandage to prevent swelling and bruising. He also inserts a thin tube to drain any blood or excess fluid.

Before sending you home, Dr. Han writes you a prescription for pain medication and antibiotics and teaches you how to clean and care for each surgical site. To lower the risk of complications, follow Dr. Han’s instructions carefully, and attend all of your follow-up appointments.   

In the first few days following your facelift, keep your head elevated at all times, and clean your face and hair regularly. You should be able to ease back into normal activities within a week.
